Google Remote Support Guide
Notes: Learning Advisors use this tool for hands-on support issues with students. It will allow your LA to access your computer remotely, so please check with a parent or guardian before sending this request.
We strongly recommend you first schedule a Google Meet with your LA to complete this process together.
-
On your computer, open the Google Chrome browser.
-
If you do not have Chrome installed, download it by clicking this link.
-
Follow the installation instructions.
-
-
Once Chrome is installed, click it to open the browser.
-
In the address bar at the top, enter remotedesktop.google.com/support and press enter.
-
In the top box labeled ‘Share this screen,’ click the download icon.
-
Remote access is an extension to Chrome. To the right of the pop-up screen that appears, click ‘Add to Chrome.’ In the confirmation window, click ‘Add extension.’
-
You will then be prompted to download and install the remote desktop software. Once installed, you can initiate the remote support process by clicking the extensions icon on your toolbar (it looks like a puzzle piece, to the right of your address bar).
-
The window looks very similar, but instead of ‘Add to Chrome,’ the button now reads ‘Generate Code.’ Click this to start the remote process by generating an access code for your Learning Advisor.
-
Copy the code and send it to the LA you want to access your computer.
-
When the LA enters your access code on the site, you will see a dialog with their Email address. Select ‘Share’ to allow them full access to your computer.
-
You will be asked to confirm you want to share your computer every 30 minutes.
-
When you are done, click ‘Stop Sharing.’ The access code you generate will only work one time.
